Elliott Optometry

Our office is open for appointments Monday through Thursday beginning at 8:00 A.M. Late appointments are available upon the asking. We honor most, but not all, insurance and accept Medicare and Medicaid.  In addition, Dr. Elliott is available 24/7 for medical eye emergencies and situations where broken glasses cause a true hardship. To reach the doctor after hours simply call our office and follow the instructions on the answering machine.

 About Our Business

Elliott Optometry came into being  in 1950 when Dr. Gerald C. Elliott, Russell's father, opened his practice on the East side of the square.  Shortly thereafter he moved to the Tucker Building which occupied what is now the parking lot immediately South of Eitel's Flowers.  In 1960 he purchased the Hutcheson Building which has since been renamed  the  Elliott Professional Building , located here at 125 E. Washington St. Dr. Russell P Elliott joined his father in practice in July, 1970.  Father and son practiced together for 24 years before Alzheimers' forced Dr. Gerald's retirement in 1994.  Dr. Russell P. Elliott has continued to practice as an optometrist at this location for what will be 40 years this summer.  Dr. Elliott loves his work and " hopes to practice another 20 years"

When not in the office, Dr. Elliott enjoys golfing, motorcycling and flying his vintage 1946 single engine Cessna. He also spends time building and flying R/C airplanes, snow skiing, walking and following his beloved Hoosier basketball team and the Colts.  Dr.Elliott and his wife of 39 years, Carolyn Torr Elliott, reside in rural Putnam County. Carolyn is Senior Vice Presedent with Bose Public Affairs Group in Indianapolis. 

 As a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Dr. Elliott makes his annual trek to Oshkosk where he pitches his tent under the wing of his antique 1946 blue and grey Cessna 140.

Elliott Optometry is fortunate to have a very dedicated and knowledgeable staff to serve our patients.  Our talented office manager, Amber Robinson,  has been with the practice 13 years and is highly trained is all areas of our profession.  She is extremely patient and goes the extra mile to serve our patients.  She is capably assisted by Rose Pursell, Mandy Purdue and Debbie Terhune.  Each of these dedicated Optometric Technicians has had formal training and participated in numerous educational field trips.  They provide us with a truly fabulous team to serve our many loyal and valued patients.  I am privileged to have these upstanding, thoughtful  hard working employees assisting both me and my patients.
