Elliott Optometry came into being in 1950 when Dr. Gerald C. Elliott, Russell's father, opened his practice on the East side of the square. Shortly thereafter he moved to the Tucker Building which occupied what is now the parking lot immediately South of Eitel's Flowers. In 1960 he purchased the Hutcheson Building which has since been renamed the Elliott Professional Building , located here at 125 E. Washington St. Dr. Russell P Elliott joined his father in practice in July, 1970. Father and son practiced together for 24 years before Alzheimers' forced Dr. Gerald's retirement in 1994. Dr. Russell P. Elliott continues to practice at this location. Dr. Elliott loves his work and " hopes to practice another 20 years".
When not in the office, Dr. Elliott enjoys golfing, motorcycling and flying his vintage 1946 single engine Cessna. He also spends time building and flying R/C airplanes, snow skiing, walking and following his beloved Hoosier basketball team and the Colts. Dr.Elliott and his wife Carolyn Torr Elliott, reside in rural Putnam County.
